名族风情

"Bai Ram" Festival, the 15th day of October in the Tibetan calendar, is the traditional Tibetan festival "Bai Ram" Festival, also known as "Fairy Day" and "Women's Day". It is an exclusive festival for Tibetan women. "Bai Ram" is Tibetan, also translated as "Bai Zalam" and "Bai La Rizhu", which means "auspicious heavenly daughter" in Chinese ".

According to legend, Bai Lam is the eldest daughter of Bandanlam, one of the highest protectors of Tibetan Buddhism. She and the protectors of the Jokhang Temple, Chi Zunzan, love each other and have a private contract for life. When Bandanram found out, he was extremely angry with his eldest daughter's love. He forbade them to fall in love and failed to stop her. He cursed her not to get a husband in her life. Even if she did, she could only see her once a year. Then he rushed Chizunzan to the south bank of Lhasa River, stipulating that only on October 15 of the Tibetan calendar every year, Beram and Chizunzan could meet across the river, but they could only visit each other for half a candle. In this way, Bairam and Chizunzan suffered from separation year after year.

Although her own love life was unfortunate, she was a compassionate and friendly protector of the law, especially for women and children. The women in Lhasa sympathized with her very much and set the 15th of October in the Tibetan calendar every year, which is the day when the goddess and Chizunzan face each other across the river, as the most solemn festival in Lhasa-the Belam Festival.

White Ram's shape is generally as follows: white skin color, one side and two arms, three slender eyes showing kind eyes, and a slightly open mouth; The hair is towering, with a corolla on his head and a golden ring on his earrings. Wearing a green coat with a big red robe inside and red boots at his feet, he sat on a lotus seat. In her right hand she held a long arrow with a white rod, on which a set of dice hung, suggesting that she had something to do with the holy lake and divination; in her left hand she carried a bowl full of jewels. She can bring joy to the miserable and unfortunate women, bring beauty to the ugly, bring hope to the pessimistic, and bring happiness to the lover. There is a saying in Tibet: The reason why Lhasa women are smart, graceful and slim is because of the blessing of the goddess Bailam.

When the festival comes, women will dress up and come to the Jokhang Temple to burn incense, kowtow, worship the goddess Bai Ram, and pray for smooth sailing for their love. At this time of the year, Lhasa women hold the statue of Barram in the Jokhang Temple to sing and march around the city. On this day, men also become more kind and respectful to women.

On this day, women from all over the Tibetan area will get up early and deliberately dress up, and collectively meet to go out for fun. They go to Barkhor Street to simmer mulberry, offer Zanba and wine to the goddess of Bandanram, burn incense and pray in front of the White Ram statue, and make a good wish for their future. In particular, Lhasa women have a deep respect for Bairam, believing that this goddess can bless her slim figure and beautiful face.

On the day of the "White Ram" festival, in addition to making a wish in front of the statue of the goddess, Tibetan girls will also look for men in groups on Barkhor Street to ask for money in the name of worshiping the goddess. In fact, it doesn't matter whether they can get the money or not. The happiness brought by the ritual is far more than the happiness of getting the money. And men are especially generous on this day and will not give up.

On the day of "Baira Rizhu", the women in Lhasa will carry their own highland barley wine to serve Bandanram and her daughters. The process of offering is to pour the wine into a big belly iron barrel in front of the statue of the goddess of frog face. The wine flows out from the hose on the tail of the iron barrel. The wine flowing out is regarded as "blessing" by the goddess. The women offering the wine will pick up the bottles and jugs that have just been emptied. Those who do not bring the jugs will hold them in their hands and pick up some for drinking, and wipe the wine on his hand over his head.

In addition to providing wine, the women will also bring tsampa and highland barley grains and scatter these tributes in the simmering mulberry furnace. Those women who came out of the Jokhang Temple after worshipping and carrying the wine "blessing" by the goddess, with white hada tied to their chests, drank highland barley wine together on the street corner and sang the ancient Tibetan opera together. Therefore, the White Ram Day is more of a day for women to gather with their old friends and revel together.

Another legend is that women who bathed in the river during the festival will not catch a cold this year, but on October 15 of the Tibetan calendar, women will catch a cold collectively.

The two-sided drum of the Kalon,

Sending the living Buddha to the grave.
